A sigil of the depths, of the vast and the untameable, the things that cannot be fully known. The Kraken does not ask permission and neither, when it finds its way onto your hand, do you.

The band is open and adjustable. Choose your approximate size when you order, we'll set it close, and it can be gently shaped to fit from there.

On the Kraken

The word itself comes from Old Norse - kraki, meaning a crooked or twisted tree. It was first written about in the 12th century by King Sverre of Norway, and later by the Danish bishop Erik Pontoppidan in 1752, who treated it not as myth but instead as natural history. He described a real creature, documented living in the deep water between Norway and Greenland.

The bishop recorded fishermen who would follow the Kraken rather than flee it, because wherever it rose it brought vast shoals of fish up from the depths with it. The danger and the abundance were the same thing, and you couldn't have one without risking the other.

In the older Norse sagas, a creature called the Hafgufa 'the Sea-Reek' is thought to be its predecessor. So immense it was mistaken for an island, that sailors would make landfall on its back before it dived.

It wasn't evil in the way later monster myths tend to be, it was instead somewhat indifferent, living its own purpose and following its own course.

The Kraken ring is crafted in 100% recycled sterling silver.
The ring is approx 22mm at its widest if the ring is overlapping at the front, tapered to approx 6mm at the back of the ring.
The ring is Adjustable in size, but you can select an approximate size and we can pre-size it for you, however this can easily be adjusted to fit.
